XII International finswimming open in Ordizia

It approaches one of the most anticipated event in the world of the monofins: the XII OPEN in ORDIZIA. As every year, Guipuzcoa and Basque Federation of Underwater Activities meets in the Major Sports Ordizia (Ordizia is halfway between Bilbao and San Sebastián), some of the best known finswimmer in the world of the monofin, like Italians Andrea Nava, Stefano Figini or Fumarola Cesare and others throughout Spain to give ”war” in a pool of 25 meters. On 3 of March finswimmers of Italy and France (waiting for more confirmations from different countries) will mix with Spanish hosts in this great competition.

All races will be played in a single day: 50m Apnea, 50m surface, 100m surface and immersion, 200m surface, 400m surface and immersion, 800msurface and exciting relays.

Geronimo Academy meeting with Binfins

Last week end Binfins have been invited to participate to Geronimo Acedemy meeting in Zagreb, Croatia, represented by Riccardo Galli, former italian finswimming national team sprinter. Stefano Figini, the famous 3-world-records holder italian finswimmer also was there togheter with Rubens Levada, the organizer and former italian national team finswimmer too.

We took part in “Zagreb Finswimming Meeting“, that was split in 4 parts, 2 theoretical and 2 practical. The first lesson was about Finswimming technique for sprinters held by Riccardo Galli where it was explained how to save precious time in short distances focusing on the start, the turn, the swimming style for sprinters and the winning post. Later all finswimmers moved to the pool where they could practice the tips they heard: in the beginning they watched Galli and Figini showing jumps, turns and finishes, later they did them while being assisted by the two Italians. In the afternoon was Figini‘s turn: he spoke about mental approach to training and competition saw as a very important part of the training togheter with phisical training, season planning and material choosing (monofin, swimmwear, snorkel, etc…). In the afternoon took place in a non-official competition where all them compete in an all star relay.

The meeting was organized by Diving Club Geronimo from Zagreb toghter with Zagreb Diving Federation, was attended by more than 80 athletes coming from 7 Croatian and 2 Serbian clubs.

Geronimo Academy is developing a very good labour of diffusion for finswimming that is improving the knowledge of finswimming in Craotia, a country where apnea diving with monofin is a well known sport, but finswimming still not.

Binfins will participate in finswimming stage

Diving Club GERONIMO from Zagreb, Croatia, is developing a finswimming diffusion program, called Geronimo Academy program, and in the next stage, that will be help on Saturday, November 5th, will host Binfins. Binfins monofins brand will talk about sprint technique by the voice or Riccardo Galli, former World Junior Championship and European Senior Championship in 100fs. Stefano Figini, the recent pluri-decorated World Champion and holder of several World records, is also going to participate to the meeting, talking about finswimming middle distances technique.

The program will develop two partes: during the educational one will be held a seminar about finswimming technique with tehoric tips for short and middle distance disciplines. The second part will be held into the water in a more practic way.

RIP Marco Simoncelli

Although we do not usually talk about motor sports today Octobrer 23th, 2011 we have to do it. We have to do it because one of the greatest motorcycle riders left us: Marco Simoncelli. In the second lap at Sepang track during the Malaysian Grand Prix has occurred the unpredicted. Although all motor sports carry an high risk of accidents, the accident of Marco has not been very common. A series of unfortunate events bring us now not to talk about a broken arm or leg. We are speaking instead about the death of the great Italian champion of Moto GP. There are no more words, the only thing left to say is Rest in peace Marco Simoncelli.

World Finswimming Championship 2011: Binfins champions

During last finswimming world championship we’ve seen a very good show thanks to any good finswimmers who have obtained first level performances, such as the Russian king of sprint Pavel Kabanov in 50 apnea, the Italian champion Stefano Figini in 800 mts surface, the Hungarian record-man Kanyo Denes in immersion finswimming or the Chinese finswimmer Huanshan Xu in 50 mts women.

Furthermore many world records have been set, such as new world record of 400 mts by the German Max Lauschus or 200 and 800 mts world records by Stefano Figini.

Finswimmers swimming with Binfins brand monofins also have swam very good performances setting also world records. The Chinese famous finswimmer Zhu Bao Zhen got a gold medal in 50 mts apnea and a silver medal in 100 mts immersion and she is also actually 50 mts , 100 mts, 50 mts apnea and 100 mts immesion world record holder. The Korean Kim Tae Gun was silver medal in 100 mts immersion and bronze medal in 50 mts apnea with incredible times. The Chinese immersion specialist Chi Cheng was world champion in 800 mts immersion and the other Chinese Liu Jiao got 5 gold medals (400 mts, 800 mts, 1500 mts, 400 mts immersion , 800 mts immersion) and set 3 new world records in 400 mts, 800 mts and 1500 mts lterally breaking the old ones … she is the real super star in the Hungarian World Championships and she wear a Binfins monofin model QI.

World Finswimming Championship – 100 mts final

There were many expectation for World Finswimming Championship final of 100 surface men. Pavel Kabanov is again the king while surprisingly Andrea Nava beats the World record holder, the other italian finswimmer Cesare Fumarola. 35″40 is the winner’s time, 35″76 means silver medal and 35″79 bronze.

The main appeal of finswimming is the speed that a finswimmer can reach. The world record for the 50 mts freestyle is 20.91 seconds by Cesar Ciello, in finswimming it is 14.04 seconds in 50 mt Apnea by Pavel Kabanov.

Monofins allow a 33% increase in speed over conventional swimming. Many people consider finswimming the Formula 1 of water sports, due to the unbelievable speed that a finswimmer can reach (propelling swimmers up to 12 kph), almost the same speed as a tiny motor boat! Furthermore finswimming competition guarantees a very attractive show for the public due to the speed of the contest and the similarity of athletes swimming style with a dolphin swimming. Another one of the great appeals of finswimming is that finswimmers do not need to be good swimmers. Indeed, there is some evidence that top flight swimmers may make poorer finswimmers than well trained finswimmers.

Unfortunately finswimming still not have reached an international fame, probably due to the poor implication both of many important countries, such as United States, and of the international federation, CMAS.

Binfins apnea diving day

Last week end the members of Binfins team have been invited by Apnea Catalunya group to assiste to their training session in deep apnea. We went to L’Escala, in the north of Barcelona, where we took a rubber dinghy and we get to “El marmoler”, a sunken ship in front of the coast between L’Escala and L’Estarit, near of the natural reserve of “islas medas” park.

The apnea divers group of Catalunya begin the training session with different buoys settled with different depth swimming up and down both with monofins and bifins equipments. The deepest water mark was set at 40 mts, corresponding to the location of the sunken boat.

Many apnea divers had the opportunity to test the new especially apnea-divers-made monofin model 2deep, having positive feed back and helping Binfins team to improve more and more in the developing of the best monofin for apnea diving.
